Happel’s Meadow Wetland Preserve covers nearly 80 acres in Blue Ridge Summit. It is important in helping to purify the Chesapeake Bay and provide a safe habitat for many animals and other creatures. Many visitors have noted that even on hot summer days, how much cooler it was and how beautiful it was with all the growth. The wetlands are located immediately east of the Park (with an entrance on the south side of Route 16 across from the Museum), and west of Blue Ridge Summit. For more information, see www.washtwp-franklin.org/happels-meadow-wetlands-2/.

The Institute is aligned with the wetland and conservation in general. Its mission is to guide the people of the Cumberland Valley region to become stewards of their natural and cultural worlds. Research in cultural history and natural science are ongoing at the Institute.  For more on The Institute, see natureandcultureinstitute.org.
